In this project, I explored different typefaces/variations of the same typeface and how they can work together to create a beautiful composition through their differences and similarities.
The typeface used in the yellow capital “M” is Baskerville. I chose to use this typeface because I like the contrast it had with the other typefaces in this composition with the serifs and helped make it feel more sophisticated.  The typeface used in the blue “a” letterform is Didot. I chose to make it lowercase to separate it from the other capital letterforms and to create a balance between both types. I wanted to use Didot because I like how well it looks with the other fonts and keeps a formal classical feeling to it, even when it is lowercase. The typeface in the coral “K” letterform is Univers. I wanted to use this typeface along with Didot and Baskerville because I think that they all are so different but compliment each other well. The differences in each typeface play to each other's strengths by creating a balanced unified feel to the composition. This is also the theme I wanted to show within the color scheme as well, given they are desaturated versions of the primary colors.
In my second composition, I chose to use the typeface Bodoni 72 Book throughout all of the letterforms, with the “M” being an Italic version of Bodoni. I chose to use the italic form of Bodoni in the “M” letterform to create movement and not feel too congruent. For the colors, I chose different shades of brown in the composition to mimic how the letterforms are all the same typeface. Having them be different shades allows there to be diversity while still feeling unified overall. I wanted to use these colors because I am a minimalist and beiges, browns, and natural earth tones are my personal favorite colors. Given Bodoni is the typeface used, the earth toned colors help convey a formal feel, which is what I ultimately was going for.
